scope:
This standard describes a method to determine by way of comparison the surface hardness of dried layers of paint or varnish by means of pencils. The standard is applicable to smooth layers of paint on a flat, rigid surface. To layers that contain coarse pigments or fillers, as e.g. anti slip layers, this method cannot be applied.
