Specifies a method for determination of the critical hoop stress above which rapid crack propagation (RGP) will occur in a polyethylene (PE) pipe, when a fast brittle crack is first initiated, e.g. by an impact or brittle fracture of a defective butt fusion weld. It is applicable to PE pipes for the supply of natural gas.
