This standard specifies requirements for multi-cell push-button switches primarily designed for use in entertainment, communications and instrument applications. Switches covered by the standard are of low-current capacibilities generally not exceeding 1 A breaking and 5 A carrying capacity. The standard covers switches of the multi-cell type with non-illuminated buttons and with mechanical systems as defined in IEC Publications 341-1, Push-button Switches, Part 1: General Requirements and Measuring Methods, Sub-clause 3.3, and contact actions as defined in Sub-clause 3.4.
