scope:
This standard is derived from the international standard for "Extruded solid dielectric insulated power cables for rated voltages from 1 kV up to 30 kV", IEC Publication 502 (1983). On the basis of Dutch practice this international standard has been adapted for medium-voltage power cables with extruded insulation that are current in the Netherlands. From this perspective the standard deals exclusively with cables with insulation of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) for voltages of 6 kV up to and including 30 kV. Moreover, the standard further specifies a number of construction requirements which IEC 502 still leaves up to 'national regulations'. This is expecially the case for the metallic coverings of the cable. This dutch standard accurately defines the permissible construction of the concentric conductor, as well as its required cross-section, taking into account differences in earthing of the neutral point.
