The object of this standard is to establish a nomenclature for European standard qualities of waste paper, by defining their composition and exclusions. It is not the purpose of this norm to specify all the qualities of waste paper that exist in the different markets, but rather to define those qualities commonly traded in the markets of the European Community. It is, therefore, not valid for use in the field of specific requirements for food contact packaging and for sanitary and health regulations. Waste paper from general refuse sorting stations is not suitable for use in the paper industry. Waste paper originating from unseparated container collections, containing only material of a valuable, recyclable nature, must be specifically marked. It must not be used for materials and articles of paper and board for contact with foodstuffs, which have to comply with international or national sanitary regulations. It is not permissible either to mix it un-marked with other waste paper.
