This part of EN 50100 specifies general requirements for the design, construction and testing of electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) for the safeguarding of machinery. Special attention is directed to features that ensure not only that the safety of the equipment is maintained in high risk applications (categories 3 and 4 of EN 954-1) but that a failure to danger will be revealed by a periodic test for lower risk applications (category 2 of EN 954-1). The particular requirements for specififc types of sensing function are given in other Parts of EN 50100.
