This standard gives a method to demonstrate thermotolerant coliform bacteria by filtering a sample of water through a membrane filter, by incubating the filter in a suitable, selective medium and by confirming typical colonies. The standard applies to the bacteriological examination of surface water and other types of water, unless the nature and/or the amount of suspended matter interfere with the determination.
