This specification relates to variable tuning capacitors of any dielectric, style or application as specified in Sub-clause 3.10 of IEC 418-1, Variable Capacitors, Part 1: Terms and Methods of Test. It covers procedures for type tests only as defined in Sub-clause 3.27 of IEC Publication 418-1. To establish uniform test methods and requirements for judging the electrical, mechanical and climatic properties of this type of capacitor and for a system of classification into categories according to the ability of the capacitor to withstand the conditions specified herein.
