This standard describes a method for the photometric determination of the total hardness of water in boiler plants. It applies to any kind of water in boiler plants with a total hardness of at least 1.25 µ mol/l and at most 10 µ mol/l. If the sample contains more than 2 µ g iron(III) or 400 µ g copper(II) the determination cannot be conducted properly. Most remaining metal ions will not interfere with the method described.
