scope:

This standard applies to headphones and headsets intended to be used on the human ear. It does not deal with safety for which reference is made to IEC Publication 65: Safety Requirements for Mains Operated Electronic and Related Apparatus for Household and Similar General Use, or other relevant IEC safety standards. Headphones are to be understood to include devices (if any) such as pre-amplifiers, passive networks, wireless sound systems or other elements which form an integral part of the headphone system. The specifications are valid for earphones (a single transducer for one ear), if not otherwise stated. The object of this standard is to standardize the designation and description of headphones, and to list characteristics to be specified, with the relevant methods of measurement.
