This standard is applicable to equipment intended to detect ionizing radiation from, and provide warning of, a criticality accident. This standard, when applied to a system designed for detection and warning of gamma radiation, neutrons, or a combination of criticality accidents, is intended to limit the probability of serious radiation exposure to personnel by providing immediate detection and alarm initiation.
