NEN 6531

Water - Titrimetric determination of the content of hydrogen carbonate in water with a pH lower than or equal to 8,35

active, Most Current
Organization: NEN
Publication Date: 1 May 1986
Status: active
Page Count: 8
ICS Code (Examination of water for chemical substances): 13.060.50
scope:

This standard describes a method for the potentiometric titration of hydrogen carbonate by means of a glass electrode. It applies to water with a pH lower than or equal to 8.35 that does not contain any other substances that consume acid and thus form volatile compounds than hydrogen carbonate. If the water contains humic acids correction can be made. The hydrogen carbonate content should at least be 0.1 µ mol/l (<=^> 6.1 mg/l). the pH must be lower than or equal to 8.35, since otherwise the sample will contain interfering quantities of carbonates and possibly hydroxide.
