This part of ISO/TS 29002 specifies a conceptual information model and an exchange file format for requesting product and service characteristic data and supplier identification from item and information suppliers. The conceptual model is in Unified Modeling Language (UML). The physical file format is based on Extensible Markup Language (XML). The following are within the scope of this part of ISO/TS 29002: query for characteristic data of items that have a given supplier identification; query for supplier identification of items that have a given set of characteristic data; query for characteristic data and supplier identification of items that match a search expression; NOTE This is sometimes called a "parametric query". query to supply missing characteristic data. The following are outside the scope of this part of ISO/TS 29002: query for dictionary data; query for ontology data. All requirements of this part of ISO/TS 29002 are generic and are intended to be applicable to all organizations, regardless of type and size. The models and schemas in this part of ISO/TS 29002 can be specialized by standards that use this part of ISO/TS 29002.
