Describes requirements and test methods for medium and high velocity water sprayers used to achieve the extinguishment or control of fires including flammable;liquids fires, or for the cooling of tanks containing flammable liquids or gases. It is necessary for sprayers to produce a suitable range of droplet sizes at adequate velocity and suitable pattern of discharge to counteract the effects of wind and hot gas velocities. Field experience suggests that sprayers using deflector plates or swirl chambers, producing conical discharge patterns that conform to the requirements of this specification will perform satisfactorily.
