scope:
This European Standard specifies a field test method for determining the relative effectiveness of wood preservatives that are applied by vacuum/pressure impregnation or other processes giving complete penetration in order to prevent degradation of timber in ground contact by micro-organisms and termites. The protective effect is determined in relation to the effect of a reference preservative applied by a standard treatment. The correlation between the results of these field tests and performance in service may still vary for different preservatives. The method is suitable for testing any type of preservatives, providing that complete penetration of the test sample is achieved. After suitable modification it is equally possible to evaluate the effectiveness of a preservative product in different kinds of wood or by impregnation methods other than vacuum and pressure but only on the condition that a total and homogeneous impregnation of the test pieces is achieved
