This technical report gives guidance based on the current scientific consensus, from examples, regarding the possible occurrence of unusually toxic species in fires involving certain materials. This possibility is referred to as "extreme toxic potency" or "unusual specific toxicity" of fire effluent. Is restricted to the examination of acute effects during or immediately after a fire. This document does not cover the long-term environmental effects of fires.
