This standard sets out a code of practice for sampling and browsing information about moving pictures and the accompanying sound track from any form of recording (for example, film, video tape or video disk) in such a way as to facilitate video browsing. This standard defines a code of practice for sampling the moving pictures visually by means of still pictures taken at a standardized rate and summarizing the accompanying sound track by the use of written extracts and descriptions. It also specifies the manner in which the visual and audio samples are to be displayed.
