Method specified bases on statistical studies of the use of vehicles in urban areas. Specifications are intended to reproduce the nois level which is exceeded during only 5% of the total driving time in urban traffic flow of irregular character which requires the use of intermediate gears. The noise level obtained is in good correlation with the equivalent A-weighted sound pressure level emitted by the vehicle during driving in urban areas.
