Applies to work systems as defined in ISO 6385 with the working medium visual display terminal as defined in ISO 9241-1. It applies to the workstation and working environment in work systems in which the visual terminal is used for office type of work. This part of ISO 9241 contains basic principles of the ergonomic design of the working environment and the workstation, taking into account the lighting, effects of noise and mechanical vibrations, electrical and magnetic fields and static electricity. It gives guidance on how to apply these principles on a given environment. However, it does not specify the technical characteristics of the equipment needed to provide that environment.
