Is intended to replace eventually in conjunction with the other parts of this standard IEC 538 and IEC 540. Gives for this reason in an Appendix cross-references between the relevant clauses in all three publications. Specifies four test methods to be used for testing PE and PP insulating and sheathing materials of electric cables for power distribution and telecommunications including cables used on ships. Lays down conditioning values and testing parameters for the most common types of insulating and sheathing compounds and of cables, wires and cords.
