scope:
This Standard describes the process by which the knowledge and experience of the use, design and accidents for machinery is brought together to assess the risks. This standard gives guidance on the identification of hazards. It provides criteria for the judgement of risks and the selection of adequate safety measures in relation to the risks and the constraints imposed by technical and economic factors. This standard covers both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis associated with risk assessment. It is not intended to provide a detailed account of the analytical methods to which the standard refers as this is dealt with elsewhere (e.g. text books and other reference documents). It does not include data for the application of quantitative methods and the general lack of such information in the field of application will limit the use of this technique.
