This standard specifies requirements, gives guidelines for positioning and describes test methods for self-contained smoke alarms irrespective of operating principle, intended solely for permanent installation, for the protection of life in dwellings or similar residential applications. In case of fire the self-contained smoke alarm device operates as a complete smoke detection and audible alarm system.
