This standard is applicable to noble gas effluent monitors intended to fulfil the following functions: - the measurement of the concentration of radioactive noble gases in the gaseous effluents at the discharge point and its variation with time; - the actuation of an alarm when a predetermined concentration of noble gases in the gaseous effluent is exceeded. The monitor may also be used for the determination of the total noble gas activity discharge over a given period and/or give information on the composition of a mixture of different gases in the discharge.
