scope:
Motor drives with oscillating rotation are seldom used in practice. Therefore, the linkages described in this standard are used in particular in manually operated drives, and also as linkages serving as part of multi-link structures. This is the case, for example, in a machine designed with a rocker as output link and in which an additional slider has to be moved together with this. These linkage forms are also suitable for increasing the stroke of a mechanism. For example, a slider crank can be attached to a cam mechanism with a rocker output link to create an oscillating sliding movement. This allows the use of a smaller cam as compared to that required in a cam mechanism with direct slider follower.
A dead centre can be used as end position detente to achieve a secure position of the slider. A dead centre can also help to avoid an impact being transmitted or can ensure that a high end force is created at the output link (press, scissors). There are applications in which the linkage with a dead centre produces the best possible transmission quality. For example, the crank-slider with the best possible transmission for stroke angle 180° < φH < 270° has a dead centre in both end positions.
