The standard applies to all rooms in buildings in which persons are located in accordance with regulations.

The aim of the optimised use of daylight in buildings is to improve the quality of stay for people in buildings and at the same time substantially reduce the total energy requirement. There is a need for planning aids and guide values for selecting systems, undertaking assessments and producing designs appropriate to applications for technical lighting designs from architects and engineers, which is to be covered by this standard. It shall be used to optimise daylight and artificial lighting. Optimisation can take place according to the goals: quality of stay, health, energy efficiency or usage-specific targets, for example, the visual task.
