Compound-filled treads are intended for, but not limited to, all inclined ladders on board naval ships, including fixed and feathering tread accommodation ladders. Treads and ladders must be of high reliability commensurate with heavy usage and the service life of naval ships, and must be able to withstand and remain operable during and after shipboard fires, high sea states, and various impacts and loadings associated with naval operations. Current stock of compound-filled treads may be used until depleted; future requisitions for compound-filled treads should refer to the current version of this specification.
