MOISTURE IN PAPER AND PAPERBOARD BY TOLUENE DISTILLATIONl

(a) This method covers a rapid procedure for determining moisture in paper and paperboard by toluene distillation that cannot be determined satisfactorily in accordance with the Method for Moisture Content of Paper and Paperboard by Oven Drying (ASTM Designation: D 644),2 because of the presence of fusible or volatile components.
(b) It is not intended to be used for ordinary papers in place of the oven-drying method, but it is recommended especially for such products as waxed or varnished papers (1).3
