Organization: API
Publication Date: 1 December 1985
Status: inactive
Page Count: 24
scope:

Inspection is a primary aid in reducing the number of process interruptions, maintaining a safe operation, and lowering the cost of maintenance and repair.  Thus inspection is a vital part of the maintenance program. A successful inspection program hinges on good planning, knowledge of the deterioration of equipment and the conditions causing deterioration, and the ability to work closely with others in the refinery organization. The inspector must have a good understanding of the process operations, a comprehensive knowledge of the equipment, and the ability to locate and identify the potential forms of deterioration within the equipment. This chapter focuses on the development of thorough inspection plans, keyed to ongoing operations, and the effective scheduling of inspection both while units are operating and during shutdowns.
