This standard defines the concepts of area and volume and establishes the generel rules for the calculation of areas and volumes in buildings.
This standard contains rules for when and how an area or a volume shall be included in the statement. Rooms or parts of rooms which do not fulfill these requirements shall not be included in the statement. This standard applies for all types of buildings and can be used for planning, financing, marketing, assessment, statistics etc.
This proposal does not determine which concepts or combination of concepts apply for which purposes. It is assumed that the authorities, building societies etc. choose the concept of area or volume which suits their purpose.
