Purpose.

The purpose of this test procedure is to evaluate the pinion bearing used in a Rack and Pinion steering gear assembly.

Foreword.

This test provides a constant axial load and cyclical radial load to the pinion bearing for component level validation. The axial and radial loads are calculated based on driver input torques.

Applicability.

This procedure is applicable to all General Motors vehicles with the Rack & Pinion steering gear pinion bearings that resist both axial and radial loads.
