The tool and cutter grinders covered by this specification are intended for resharpening conventional types of cutters within the range specified, including all types of milling cutters, reamers, counterbores, hobs, taps, form tools, thread chasers, or other metal cutting tools. With the proper attachments, they shall be used for internal and external cylindrical grinding and surface grinding.

The tool, cutter, gashing, flute and radius grinders covered by this specification are intended for sharpening conventional type end milling cutters having cylindrical or tapered sides, straight or helical flutes, and ball, radius, or square nose. With proper attachments, they shall be used for grinding and sizing shell or ball end mills, face-milling cutters, and form-milling cutters that can be mounted on arbors within the capacity of the machine. Type IV machines shall also be used to make new cutters from solid stock.
