PURPOSE

The intent of this guideline is to define when manufacturers/suppliers should change part numbers by applying a clear, concise, valid, and efficient process, (the Item Interchangeability Guideline, universally in the telecommunications industry). The desired result is that all manufacturers/suppliers use the same logic for deciding when to change part numbers.

This guideline does not address issues relating to:

• item substitutes

• items within groups of items

 •downward compatibility

• labeling and re-labeling throughout the supply chain (by agreement between customer and supplier)
