Where hardware products, software products and services are identified with a code, this guideline and its recommended coding structures applies. This guideline applies to all hardware and software products as well as services utilized by telecommunications industry companies regardless of the distribution channel. It covers all products including those where there are special requirements such as product interchangeability, product traceability, capital investment tracking, separations data, etc., that are vital to the management of the product.

Note: This document does not apply to ordering and billing of telecom services and telephone bills which are covered by Uniform Service Order Codes/Field Identifiers (USOC/FID).

PURPOSE

The purpose of this guideline is to identify product identification codes following the product coding structures of choice for the telecommunications industry.
