DS/CWA 13987-1

Smart Card Systems: Interoperable Citizen Services: Extended User Related Information - Part 1: Definition of User Related Information and Implementation

inactive, Most Current
Organization: DS
Publication Date: 10 May 2004
Status: inactive
Page Count: 106
ICS Code (Identification cards. Chip cards. Biometrics): 35.240.15
scope:

CWA 13987:2003 is likely to be of interest to any organisation or individual involved in smart card deployment, including providers of smart card enabled terminals for access to public services (Card Acceptors). This part of CWA 13987:2003 is the normative part. It: - provides the definition of the dataset known as User Related Information (URI), and of the rules for extending the dataset included on the smart card; - explains the basic principles that govern and support the implementation of the URI as extended to multi-application smart cards (the eURI implementation); - specifies the eURI interface between the smart card and the Card Accepting Device (CAD) for interoperability; - specifies a logical format for exchange of eURI information between Service Providers; and - specifies support for earlier versions (CWA 13987:2000 and DISTINCT ID). Note that the CAD is often referred to as the card reader, or regarded as an integral part of the user terminal, and the smart card to CAD interface is often referred to as the card edge specification. Together with the description and formatting rules of eURI data elements, the document explains how the eURI on a smart card can be accessed by a CAD and describes card and terminal functions necessary to ensure that the eURI data is retrieved and properly used. That use includes, where appropriate, providing facilities for the Card Holder to modify parts of the eURI, in particular the user preferences data. An important provision in this CWA is that part of the eURI is available globally without the need for backup
