Electrical Protection for Network Operator-Type Equipment Positions
|Publication Date:||1 December 2005|
This standard covers new installations)1 of network operator-type equipment positions in which personnel are required to access a computer terminal keyboard while continually wearing a headset.
Measures are presented that are intended to help to control ESD in the network operator-type environment. To help minimize the effects of lightning, surges from commercial ac power lines, and power switching operations, measures are provided for equipotential bonding and grounding at the telephone Cable Entrance Facility (CEF) and the Power Entrance Facility (PEF), as well as for equipotential bonding, grounding and, where necessary, electrical protection at the network operatortype equipment position(s).
The purpose of this standard is to provide ESD-mitigative measures that are intended to control ESD in the operator-user environment, and to provide electrical protection measures that are intended to minimize potential differences at the network operator-type equipment position. It is not to guarantee against the occurrence of ESD or other electrical disturbances or their effects.
1 Although the measures outlines in this standard are specifically intended for new installations, some of the techniques presented may also be useful at existing installations.
