The ion exchange resin is intended to be used to demineralize or treat water by replacing nonmetal (negatively charged) ions with hydroxide ions (OH⁻) using class 2 resin or by replacing metal (positively charged) ions with hydrogen ions (H⁺) using class 1 resin. Class 3 resin is a chemically equivalent mixture of hydroxide form and hydrogen form resins which replace salt solutions with electrically neutral water molecules. The class 3 resin is suitable for use in naval shipboard (non-nuclear) demineralization units.
