The safety specifications in this Standard apply to the following towed, semi-mounted, and mounted mowers: (Refer to ASAE S390)
Mowers with one or more blade assemblies of 78 cm (30.5 in.) or greater blade tip circle diameter intended for marketing as agricultural rotary mowing equipment and designed for cutting and/or shredding grass and other growth and crop residue and for spreading the cut material to meet varying mowing requirements.
Mowers powered by an agricultural tractor as defined in ASAE S390 or by a similar machine of at least 15 kw (20 hp).
The safety specifications in this Standard do not apply to the following mowers.
Turf care equipment primarily designed for personal use, consumption, or enjoyment by a consumer in or around a permanent or temporary household or residence.
Finishing mowers with multiple blade spindles in rigid deck(s) intended for finish mowing while being powered by an agricultural tractor.
Equipment designed primarily for commercial purposes such as mowing along highways or in other populated areas but which may be used for agricultural mowing.
Self-powered or self-propelled mowers, mowing machines, or boom-mounted rotary mowers.
Drum and disc mowers.
Purpose
The purpose of this Standard is to establish the safety requirements for agricultural rotary mowers whose intended use falls within the scope of this Standard.
