OVERVIEW

This manual begins with a nontechnical explanation of seismic loads to help designers and builders appreciate the need for seismic restraints. Chapter 2 explains the steps in using the drawings and tables and includes two worked examples. Chapter 3 outlines the general requirements for restraints. Chapter 4 includes the detail drawings that illustrate required bracing. Notes on these details refer to tables in Chapters 5 through 8 for specific bracing sizes. Chapters 9 and 10 give sizes and details for connecting the bracing to the structure. Appendix A instructs designers in the selection of the Seismic Hazard Level (SHL), Appendix B is a sample specification, and Appendix C is a list of references. The manual concludes with a glossary found in Appendix D and an index.
