Standard Specification for HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL CASTINGS FOR STRUCTURAL PURPOSES
|Publication Date:||1 January 1958|
|ICS Code (Iron and steel castings):||77.140.80|
These specifications cover carbon-steel and alloy-steel castings that are to be subjected to higher mechanical stresses than those covered in the Specifications for Mild- to Medium-Strength Carbon-Steel Castings for General Application (A.S.T.M. Designation: A 27).3
Seven grades (Note) of steel castings are covered, having the chemical composition and mechanical properties prescribed in Tables I and II. The grade desired shall be specified by the purchaser.
Note. - The grades are distinguished by numerals corresponding to the significant numbers of the specified tensile strength and yield point. For example, grade 80-40 calls for a minimum tensile strength and yield point of 80,000 and 40,000 psi., respectively, grade 150-125, for a minimum tensile strength and yield point of 150,000 and 125,000 psi., respectively.
