Diese Europäische Norm enthält allgemeine Anleitungen an das Lichtbogenschweißen von metallischen Werkstoffen für alle Erzeugnisformen (z. B. gegossen, gewalzt, stranggepresst, geschmiedet).

Die in diesem Teil der EN 1011 erwähnten Schweißprozesse und -techniken sind nicht immer für alle Werkstoffe anwendbar. Für spezielle Werkstoffe werden zusätzliche Informationen in den entsprechenden Teilen dieser Norm angegeben.
