Introduction
Before taking a possession in a depot where trains are normally stabled the possession master must report to the duty depot manager or their deputy.
The possession master must agree with the duty depot manager or their deputy
• details of the work being done
• the extent of the worksite
• possession protection details
• the risk of movement of trains on adjacent roads
• special traction current arrangements
AND
The possession master must complete a permit to work form (use form number OSU POSS 002 located on the Operational Standards web site).
The possession master can carry out all the protection arrangements themselves, but in some circumstances he might need assistance from other members of staff.
Where trains are stabled within a possession or are stabled on tracks outside the possession but on the same traction current section, the duty depot manager must not allow train movements to be made without the possession master's authority. The possession master must make sure that the train (or trains) concerned are displaying the appropriate target.
Note - This is to prevent an isolated section being 'livened up' by train movements or by a feed from a battery locomotive.
If the train is a battery locomotive the possession master must check that the collector shoes are clear of the traction current rails. If they are not he must tell the duty depot manager or their deputy to arrange for this to be done.
Note - This is to prevent an isolated section from being 'livened up' by a battery locomotive.
