SCOPE/PURPOSE
This document establishes the requirements and procedures for the creation and modification of Pro/ENGINEER® design software Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models and drawings for use at MSFC. The goal is to produce robust models that relate correct dimensional data directly to manufacturing processes. This document identifies modeling methodology so that all design groups produce consistent electronic deliverables within MSFC. Future revisions of this standard will address other CAD tools used at MSFC.
Application
All Pro/ENGINEER objects created at MSFC shall adhere to the practices described within this document, except Ground Support Equipment (GSE), Special Test Equipment (STE), and other non-flight hardware development entities which typically utilize existing or modified legacy hardware.
GSE, STE, and other non-flight hardware development entities should use this standard as a guide for modeling practices and adhere to it wherever practical.
The solid geometry in the CAD model shall be the authority, supplemented by 2-Dimensional (2D) drawings.
The drawings shall be used to define the notes, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and other information necessary to fully define the configuration.
Full Model Based Definition (MBD) will be addressed in a future appendix or revision to this document. All model annotations and tolerances until full MBD is implemented shall be ignored for manufacturing and quality assurance purposes.
This document will be applicable to all subcontractors preparing Pro/ENGINEER models that will be integrated into MSFC designs.
The Designer's Checklist in Appendix D shall be used to check design packages for compliance with this Standard.
Models shall meet the Designer's Checklist in Appendix D.
