This document is intended for use as the North American standard to provide uniform functions and requirements for performance monitoring (PM) and alarm/status monitoring for digital transmission signals at DSL rates. It is to be used in conjunction with the core document - T1.231-2003. This document is part of the T1.231 series, which supersedes and replaces T1.231-1997 in its entirety.

This standard currently contains sections addressing requirements for ADSL and HDSL signals. The requirements in this document supersede and replace Annex M of T1.413-1998 and Annex G of T1.418-2002. Requirements for other versions of DSL (such as VDSL and SHDSL) are for further study.
