Purpose.

a. To promulgate reference (a), the Department of Defense (DoD) Strategic Language List (SSL), and the Navy SLL for Fiscal Year (FY) 2010.

b. The intent of the DoD and Navy SLLs is to inform combatant commanders, Defense agencies, and the Military Departments of foreign language requirements. The lists shall be used to shape foreign language capability and capacity in the force, prioritize development of related training, and facilitate administration of the Navy's Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus (FLPB) Program as contained in reference (b) and modified by references (c) and (d) .
