scope:
This standard contains the required performance criteria by which an authority having jurisdiction over aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) maintains proficiency and effective ARFF at airports.
Purpose. This standard is intended for the use of those charged with maintaining ARFF services at airports and establishes the basis for a recurring training program that focuses on measurable performance criteria.
This standard addresses the development of productive and coordinated aircraft rescue and fire control operations with a minimum exposure to risk for participants and the environment.
Results of evaluations conducted in accordance with the requirements of this standard shall be recorded and maintained by means of a documented management system.
Continuous broad-based training is fundamental to maintaining a proficient ARFF delivery system at airports.
ARFF personnel at airports shall meet the requirements of NFPA 1003, Standard for Airport Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, prior to assignment and thereafter shall receive necessary recurring training that will enable them to consistently meet the requirements of this standard relative to each individual's role and tasks.
