The Scope of this Manual is to provide guidance on the application of the following generic requirements for LU owned civil engineering assets:
a) Competence
b) Technical approval, processes and assurance
c) Design of service fixings and connections for new structures
d) Ground investigations
e) Management of sub-standard assets
f) Impact on operational railway and adjacent structures
g) Asset and structure identification
h) Condition assessment and certification
i) Structural materials
j) Cutting, grinding, drilling, fixing to and supporting from existing structures
k) Decommissioning, demolition and site clearance
l) Access covers
m) Service crossings
This Manual mirrors the sub-section headings of LU Standard 1-050 (Civil Engineering - Common Requirements) at the start of each section, but additionally has further sub-sections added where there is further guidance material available to LU that does not specifically relate to the sub-section headings used in the standard, or is better set out separately.
The information contained in this Manual is derived mainly from historical information contained in existing LU documents and therefore does not necessarily reflect current good practice. Where possible, existing historical information has been supplemented by references to current good industry practice.
This issue of the manual replaces G-050 A2
Purpose
The purpose of this Manual of Good Practice is to support LU Standard 1-050 (Civil Engineering - Common Requirements) and give guidance on the established good practice solutions that meet the requirements of that standard.
