LUL - 1-212

Production of a reliability case

inactive
Organization: LUL
Publication Date: 1 October 2009
Status: inactive
Page Count: 11
scope:

The Standard applies to New or altered assets being delivered for LU which result in a substantive change in train service capability or control. This includes Line Upgrades and/or extensions and where new technologies not previously used on London Underground are proposed.

This is likely to include, on a risk basis, assessment of the performance of new Rolling Stock, Signalling, Communications and Power assets as may be applicable.

This standard does not specify which analyses should form part of a particular Reliability Case since this will be covered by contract or agreement.

The degree to which this standard is applied should be in proportion to the risk arising and the complexity of the project or programme.

This standard does not stipulate how a particular analysis (such as prediction, Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis, (FMECA) or Fault Tree Analysis) should be done since this guidance is contained elsewhere.

Purpose

The purpose of this standard is to define requirements for the production of a document setting out a Reliability Case.

The objectives of a reliability case are:

a) To assure an Acquirer the extent to which reliability requirements that the Acquirer has placed on the system will be, or are, met;

b) To show the Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability, (RAM) status of a system at a particular point in its life cycle, derived from a body of evidence and reasoned arguments;

c) To show RAM problem areas and propose solutions or mitigations.
