scope:
This guide is one of a suite of guides that encompass the whole range of LU's business, all with the aim of achieving the aspirations of the Company's vision in the various areas of LU's activity.
However, this particular guide is specific to the area of train ambience and design and to the Policies and Standards noted below, which relate to this area of prime importance to our customers. The Standards, which are mandatory, flow directly from the policies and fully support them. We have therefore developed the guide to be used alongside these Standards as an essential tool to assist you in properly implementing them.
Purpose of this guide
This guide is intended to give practical advice and guidance for implementing the standards applying to train ambience and design. It is an important source, therefore, for both LU staff and contractors, consultants and suppliers, who are involved in carrying out any works to trains and affecting both exterior and interior train environment.
The aim is neither to be unduly restrictive nor to stamp out originality or innovation. It is intended to show good practice in implementing works and how the mandatory Standards can be achieved, always with the aim of creating the ambience and environment of a world-class Tube.
The aim, through the utilisation of LU's Design Principles and Design management, is to ensure that our trains are fit for purpose and world-class.
The Design Management Team shall be involved throughout the development of new vehicles, refurbishment and upgrade projects to ensure the highest levels of train ambience and décor design are achieved and that LU's core values are consistently presented to our customers. Train design should also align itself with LU's Design Principles, which underpin our policies and aspirations. Rigorous design management processes and continued involvement with the Engineering Department, Operational Upgrades Group and Design Management Team will be key to the delivery of successful projects.
Vehicle manufactures, sub-contractors, design consultants and LU staff should use this guide, along with other LU Standards, to assist LU to achieve its vision of a world-class Tube for a world-class city.
