GENERAL
This recommended practice contains considerations that are unique for planning, designing, and constructing Arctic systems. Used with other applicable codes and standards like API Recommended Practice 2A or Recommended Practice 1111, this recommended practice will be helpful in providing guidance to those involved in design of Arctic systems.
The systems covered in this recommended practice for the Arctic environment are:
• Offshore concrete, steel, and hybrid structures, sand islands, and gravel islands used as platforms for exploration drilling or production.
• Offshore ice islands used as platforms for exploration drilling.
• Near shore causeways.
• Offshore pipelines.
• Shore crossings for pipelines.
These systems and a variety if materials covered in this recommended practice require different design methodologies. Therefore, an understanding of the pertinent considerations related to the different design methods is essential.
