REISSUANCE AND PURPOSE

This Directive reissues Reference (a) to update policy for administering Reference (b) and serves as the joint document for administration of healthcare benefits required under Reference (b) issued by the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services.

APPLICABILITY

This Directive applies to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments (including the Coast Guard when it is not operating as a Service in the Navy, under agreement with the Department of Homeland Security), the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Joint Staff, the Combatant Commands, the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Defense Agencies, the DoD Field Activities, and all other organizational entities within the Department of Defense (hereafter referred to collectively as the "DoD Components").

This Directive also applies, by agreement with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, to the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service.
